Bus 113 to Pencaitland

Glenkinchie is a lovely place – great ambiance, tour (£7), and guide. At the conclusion of the tour, we tried the 12-year old whiskey and an even stronger one – both too strong for my liking, which has very little taste for alcohol, anyway. We also passed through the oringinal malting floors, now an exhibition area which includes a model version of the Glenkinchie distillery. The East Lothian bus to Pencaitland (#113) from Edinburgh is the closest one gets to Glenkinchie. From the gas station where the bus drops you off, you can take a taxi or walk two miles to the distillery, exactly what we did. Well, we tried. A few minutes into the walk, a kind man going in that direction gave us a ride. We did, however, take the stroll on the way back, enjoying the rolling hills of barley and peaceful silence.

  1. Wow those are really great quality photos! I’m in a hostel now with a guy who is dying for good whiskey but doesn’t like the Peruvian options.
